WOMEN'S COMMITTEES FORMED. A number of women patliered tof;etlio! in the rooms of tlie National Political Federation yesterday afternoon with the idea of forming women's committees to work in conjunction with the Auckland divisional branch of tlu» federation. The gathering was a representative one and Dr. Buckley Turkington presided. Dr. Turkington explained that the federation existed to weld together the United and Bcfiwm parties and she thanked those present for the interest thev had takeii and the manner in which they had volunteered their services /or the federation. Dr. Hilda Northeroft, in addressing the meeting, explained the need for co-operation and in suggesting that study circles be formed, pointed out various ways in which women could help in organisation. The Hon. J. <1. Cobbc was present and in a short address paid tribute to the work that had been done by the Xew Zealand delegation to London. In expressing gratitude at the unity shown among the women, the ITon. Eliot R. Davis, M.L.C., spoke of the power women electors could exert in securing stable government for the country. Miss Ada -Coates, sister of the Right Hon. J. G. Coates, complimented the women of Auckland upon their exithusiasm to assist the new federation. A social and reception committee was set up to arrange for a welcome to the Right Hon G. W. Forbes at the National Hall on his return from London on August 14. An organising committee was also elected to direct tl|e formation of subsidiary committees in the various city and suburban electorates. Dr. Buckley Turkington was elected chairman of the women's general committee to work in conjunction with the Auckland divisional executive. Mrs. 12. A. Smythe was elected honorary secretary and treasurer, and Miss A. Bastin honorary auditor.
