TE AROHA HORSES.

GAY EGYPT'S PROGRESS

KING FLIGHT WELL FORWARD,

Ocean Star, by Speardance—Queen Comet, leased by Mr. D. Borrie from Mr. R. Burke, has been ridden about and is to join J. H. Wallace's team this month. This four-year-old has been given ample time in which to develop and is a shapely type of thoroughbred. Her dam, by Day Comet, was a game customer when racing, and as Queen Comet is bred on the Musket-St. Simon lines she should make good on the Mr. A. Hirst's King Flight was allotted a fair amount of hack work in the early winter around Manawaru, with the result that he is now fairly well forward in condition. He would have done better this season but for his tendency to bore out when the pace was on, and on at least two occasions he lost a lot of ground In order to give him more time in which to develop, he may not be put into work again until September. Mr. E. Mayo's Musketoon gelding Mustang has been leased to a Taranaki sportsman, and will be trained in future at New Plymouth. Since C. E. Mallowes' lease of the gelding expired, about two months ago, Mustang has been kept in nice condition to go right into work. Mrs. R. Taylor's Routine Flush will be one that should come to hand early in the new season, as he has done his share of hack work during the winter. He has been a decidedly free worker on the track, but may be found to have steadied down nicely, consequent upon the duties allotted him lately. . Although Gay Egypt did not strike his top form during the present season there is reason to expect that in the coming term he will make up for lost time. He is looking well just now and will be ready to race at the early spring fixtures. A member of Mr. R. B. Hines team that is likely to attract attention when his track work begins in earnest is the Paladin—Capable gelding Fei-Mali. Before coming to Te Arolia West he underwent a preliminary education, so it should not be long before a line can be gained as to his galloping ability. It is seldom that Mr. Hines races any but those of his own breeding, so more interest will be taken in Fei-Mali on this account. . The Paeroa-owned Te Monanui—Elnona gelding has joined C. E. Mallowes' team. He lias already done a fair amount of work at Paeroa and will soon get into racing shape.
