FAREWELL SOCIAL.
A farewell was tendered at a large gathering at Northcote la*t evening to the Rev. F. A. Thompson and Mrs. Thompson and family. Mr. Thompson, who has been minister of the Northcote Presbyterian Church for six years, and leaves for Feilding next week, was presented on behalf of the congregation by the senior elder, Mr. Joseph Hay, with a wallet filled with bank notes. Mrs. Thompson was handed a bouquet by Mrs. W. E. Richardson. Miss Joyce Thompson was given a silver strass embroidered evening bag by Mrs. A. Campbell, and a bouquet of flowers by Miss Nancy Hunter. A pair of ebony hair brushes was presented to Mr. Arthur Thompson by Mr. W. Hay. The Mayor, Mr. R. Martin, referred to the assistance given by Mr. and Mrs. Thompson in work tor the whole community, and Mrs. J. G. Lockie (secretary), and Mr. N. S. Davidson spoke on behalf of the Northcote Welfare League conveying appreciation of Mr. Thompson's association therewith. The moderator, the Rev. R. N. Alley, of Balmoral, presided, and brief speeches were also made by the Rev. Fraser Barton, of St. Stephen's, Ponsonby, and by Mr. W. Rew, president of the Auckland Sunday Schools' Union.
Musical items were contributed by Mrs. H. Stebbing (pianoforte solos), Misses Winifred Johnson, Judith Glover, Messrs. S. Ternhough, A. Hodder (songs), and Scotch dances were given by Master Donald Davidson. The accompaniments were played by Mrs. T. Joll.
