The Tamaki Drive course was the scene of much activity on Saturday by supporters of rowing, who were keen on watching tho training operations of the various crews that will be seen in action at the New Zealand championship regatta on tho VVhnu Estuary next Saturday afternoon. The work of the crews aroused a lot of interest, and this was Increased by the appearance of Wairau, holders of the championship fours title. The Tamaki Drive course was rowed and with the wind offshore the water conditions were splendid. Mr. T. Marshall was starter and Mr. V. Smith judge. The crews of R. Stables and L. Ross met in the final and from a good start Ross jumped out smartly and took the lead. With a quarter of the course covered Ross' crew was about three-parts of a length ahead, with Stables' crew pegging at them hard. Off the gap the crews were almost level, but on the run to the reef Ross held a lead of a canvas. Straightened for home tho pace was cracked on and half-way down the straight Stables forged ahead. The pace then became a gruelling one and told on Ross' crew, and Stables continued on to win by three-parts of a length. The winners were: R. Stables (stroke), C. Dalton (S), C. Cairns C~). JO'Hanlon (bow). WEST END CLUB. Under favourable water conditions the West End Rowing Club held a set of trial fours for novice oarsmen. The trophies were caps presented by the club secretary, Mr. C.
