GREATEST HOAX.

INDIAN PIGMY STORY.

Canard May be Due to Ancient Hindu Belief.

WORLD INTEREST AROUSED.

(United P.A.—Electric Telegraph—Copyright)

(Received 10 a.m.) BOMBAY, February 22. The story of the finding of the fossil remains of a lain pigmy man, with a lOin walking stick and an 18in cow, is one of the greatest hoaxes of recent times. No discovery was made. The report is either a practical joke or is due to the ancient Hindu superstition that the spreading of a false rumour helps in a domestic crisis, such as childbirth. Local authorities have been overwhelmed by cable inquiries from all over the world, the inconvenience in dealing with which resulted in a strict investigation.
