MATAMATA HORSES.

NINE FOR CAMBRIDGE. FLOWER BAG'S TEMPORARY HOME. Flower Bag, who was competing at the Ellerslie meeting, is a temporary inmate of R. .T. Mateer's stable. This trainer I will supervise Flower Bag's work until after the Waikato Hunt Club's meeting on Monday. Excluding Flower Bag, cigiit hordes from here will be starting at Cambridge. Theeo are Glenade, Lapstone, Master Xorval, Scotland, Grand City, Swift Spear, Gay Lap and Pound Sterling. Master Norval, Scotland, Hikutaia, Emancipation and Dark Marble arrived back from Ellerslie on Wednesday. The team did not fare too well, a second nnd two thirds being their portion. Dark Marble opened up an old wound on the inside of his near hock when he fell, and is distinctly lame, while Emancipation is also moving short owing to splint trouble. Although Hikutaia was not started on the second day there is nothing wrong with him, and he will probably race at Avondale. Master Xorval appears to have lightened up since his two races at Ellerslie. He may freshen up. but he does not look to bo in his best racing condition. Scotland looks particularly well, and may be expected to run prominently in the race selected for him at Cambridge. Although Grand City has an unsightly knee he is working satisfactorily. This horse usually races well fresh. Pound Sterling looks a greatly improved horse since last season. He may require a race, but he is nicely treated on the score of weight for his race on Monday. He is working well, without doing a great deal of fast work. The Matamata rider B. Sullivan has been engaged to ride Flower Bag. Glenade, Lapstone and Swift Spear on Monday. A Record Season. It is computed that Matamata-trained horses won £54<53 in stakes last season. The principal winner was Valpeen with £1510. Then followed Master Xorval (£650), Brown Abbey (£020). Prince Val (£5.10), Luccss (£305), Emancipation (£355?, Last Lap (£347 10/). Dark Marble (£240), Grand City (£lB2 10/). Gigantic (£133), Hikutaia (£125), Poi Dance (£110), Welcomo Boy (£00). Pound .Sterling (£88), First Dance (£00), Merry Lap (£2O), Huskie (£10), Street Dancer (£">). The winning trainers were: G. Campbell, £1510: W. McLean, £1015; R. <T. Mateer, £795: .T. W. Cnthro, £730: R. Martin and J. Clothier, £530 each; W. Hennessey, £233; J. Pohlen, £110; F. Hill, £20. The winning owners' list was easily headed by Mr. G. Campbell, with W. j. McLean next, and Messrs. Black Bros., Opotiki, in third place.
