WELLINGTON CONFERENCE. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Wednesday. The Baptist Union Conference to-day received into the union the new church at Putaruru. Messrs. C. G. Reay and M. T. Eade, having completed their ministerial training and probation period, were received into full standing.
Resolutions of sympathy with the relatives of a number of members who liad died during the past year were carried, special reference being made to the loss suffered by the Church through the recent death of the Rev. Charles Itallaston, a former president of the Baptist Union of Xew Zealand.
A notice of motion introduced by the secretary, the Rev. M. Lascellcs, proposing that the 12 members of the finance committee should be nominated from Church members in Wellington and Auckland was strongly challenged, ancl later withdrawn. Mr. Lascelles said the notice of motion was intended to make for the more efficient working of the finance committee.
The William Carey centenary meeting was held by the conference to-night. The president, the Rev. John Laird, paid a tribute to the work of the great missionary, who laboured for 41 years in India.
