RAIL-CAR SERVICE.

PAPAKTOA SUBURBAN AREA. In answer to a question asked at a monthly meeting of the Papakura Chamber of Commerce last evening, Mr. G, T. Wilson, the Auckland district manager of railways, said that the question of rail-cars for the Papakura service was being seriously considered. It was said by some that rail-cars would reduce the running cost, but once the engines had steam up the extra running was very slight. There was also the necessity for a quick service. It must be remembered that the 20 miles was run in 51 minutes, with 17 stops. On a rail-car there would only be two entrances and exits, but on a train there were at least ten, which made for a speedy exit at each stop.
