MOUNT ALBERT BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The monthly meeting of the Mount Albert Borough Council was held last evening, the Mayor, Mr. R. Ferner, presiding. Drainage Board.—Reporting as the council's representative on the Metropolitan Drainage Board, the Mayor said that of the estimated capital expenditure for the year of £23,500, no less than £21,000 would be in Mount Albert. Of this, £12,500 would be spent in the completion of a branch sewer in the Springleigh area in the south of the borough, while £9000 would be expended in providing a culvert for the Arch Hill drain. "The Arch Hill gully has for too long been a source of danger to health," zemarked the Mayor. Levies.—Reductions in levies were announced, that of the Drainage Board being £3258. instead of £3424 in 1933-34, and the Hospital Board £5599, instead of £5800. The bank overdraft was £25,381, as against £30,237 last year. Licenses.—The building inspector reported that for the three weeks up to .June 4, 13 permits had been issued of a total value of £2496. For the month of May, 23 permits were issued of a total value of £3186. A total of 1700 motor drivers' licenses had been issued, this figure being 200 more than at the same date last year. Street Collection.—The council granted permission to " the Auckland Hospital Auxiliary to hold its annual street collection on August 3. The Engineer.—Congratulations were extended to the borough engineer, Mr. W. E. Begbie, on his recovery and return after a serious and prolonged illness. Road Through Park.—The engineer's suggestion to name the roadway through Fowlds Park "Fowlds Drive" was not acted upon for the time being. It was also suggested in council to name it after the late Rev. Angus Macdonald. Hate Collections.—Kate collections to May 31 showed an increase of well over £1000 on the 1933 total, being £4176, as against £3078.
