SYSTEM OF BETTING.
"LOGIC" AGAIN REPLIES,
"Logic" again writes: —Whilst appreciating "Constant Punter's" remarks relating to the smaller meetings, 1 am afraid they do not apply to the four main centres, three of which, I am glad to 6ay, have decided in favour of win and place machines. "Constant Punter" evidently does not study the interests of the owners, who have to bear all the expense of "Constant Punter's" pleasure, and his remarks that his latest advices from England, viz., that they are using the single pool machine there, is going from the sublime to the ridiculous, as England always has had and always- will have the only logical form of betting, viz., win and place, any other form being considered as mongrel betting. As regards "Exowner," I cannot reconcile his views with those of Mr. A. D. Webster, whose advice is well worth consideration; further, many Australian friends of mine who have visited these shores the last year or so have expressed their delight at being able to bet win and place. To say that there is not enough money in New Zealand to keep two totalisators going ie absurd, and has no bearing on the form of betting. I understand that more money is invested ouUide the totalisators than on them in New Zealand; therefore, it ie the duty o£ every racing club to make every endeavour to attract money to the totalisator, and the only way to do this is by adopting the win and place machine. As already proved when win and place was first adopted in New Zealand, receipts went up by leaps and bounds, not because times were better, but the money that formerly found its way elsewhere, -went on to the totalisator.
