THE WRITERS' CLUB.

VISITORS ENTERTAINED. Yesterday afternoon the members of the Writers' Club entertained two visitting American writers, Misses Booth and Cranston, at an afternoon tea in the Roof Garden Tea Rooms. After a brief speech of welcome the president, Mrs. S. M. Cluett, presented the visitors with bouquets of mauve and pink asters and sweet sultans, on behalf of the club members. Miss Cranston, who is a regular contributor to "Good Housekeeping," gave an interesting short talk on writing for the American papers. Miss Booth, who is on the editorial staff of the magazine, then spoke on the requirements of the American market. Members asked a number of questions about the work and about the opportunities offering for publication in America, and found the information very helpful.

The tea concluded with a brief speech of thanks from Mrs. Cluett.

The young people's evening was held at Mrs. Spiers', 84, Shortland Street, and a number of interesting items were given. Mrs. Scott-Young read a short paper on "Holidaying," ami Miss K. M. Harvey gave a talk on "Bernard Shaw." Mrs. Spiers, Miss Mary Spiers and Miss E. M. Johnston gave elocutionary items. The meeting ended with a vote of thanks to Mrs. Spiers.
