Mr. Rae was the principal of tlie Training College, which is closed this year, and pending its reopening lie has been allocated inspectorial duties in the Auckland educational district. The scholarship would enable him to study educational methods in England and America. The chairman, Mr. T. U. Wells, said that Mr. Rao should be congratulated 011 the distinct honour which liad been offered him. He thought the board should press on the Department the advisability of giving Mr. Rae the facility to accept, for he was just the right type of man to make the most of the opportunity. Mr. Wells moved that Mr. Rae bo congratulated and that the Department be urged to let him go. Mr. C. R. Munroe supported the chairman, emphasising the belief that Mr. Rae was just the type to send abroad. He mentioned, too, that the corporation had allocated So,ooo dollars for educational research in the Dominion. Mr. R. Hoe said that ho would like to see some recognition made of the Carnegie Corporation's generosity, and moved that a letter of appreciation be sent to that body. Roth tho chairman's and Mr. Hoe's resolutions were carried. Jn reply to a member, Mr. Wells said that Mr. Rae should be granted leave of absence on salary.
