Trenlham Tests Begin. — Riflewoman of Whangarei. flty Telegraph.—Press Association.) TRENTHAM, this day. The annual meeting of the National Rifle Association opened at Trentham Una' morning, when the compulsory service series of matches were iired. Marksmen from all parts of the Dominion are taking part in this year's fixture, which has attracted 20(J competitors. This is an improvement of 19 on the entries received last year, the present meeting being the best attended within recent years. The ranks of competitors contain one woman, Mrs. T. Hill, of Whangarei. She is the second woman to compete at a meeting of the National Rifle Association, the first appearance by a female competitor being that made last y ear by Mrs. A. Lovell, of Blenheim. Before moving off to the filing points the marksmen were briefly addressed by •the president of the association, Colonel l'\ B. Oeswell, of Christehurch, who welcomed the competitors and expressed gratification at the presence of so large a muster. With a high westerly wind blowing down lite range this morning's conditions were not conducive to accurate shooting. At times the wind almost reached gale force, against which it was didicult to hold a rifie still while taking aim. in such conditions as these the scores were generally I OH'.
