TEAM FOR N.Z.

Scaife Excluded After Great Double Against N.S.W. DAVEY THE "MYSTERY" MAN. (Received 12 noon.) SYDNEY, this day. The Australian cricket team, for the tour of New Zealand is:— V. Richardson (captain), J. Davey, A., Lonergan, H. Nitschke, C. W. Walker (South Australia). K. Rigg (vice-captain), J.. Nagel and E. McCormick (Victoria). H. Chilvers, J. H. Fingleton and Clein Hill (New South Wales). C. Andrews (Queensland). C. Badcock (Tasmania). Badcock is a promising batsman. Davey is an all-round player. The team comprises many with Test match qualifications. The selection committee will comprise Richardson, Rigg and Fingleton. A later message states that the Sydney morning papers are not pleased with the selection of the team. The "Telegraph" says that more surprising than the inclusion of Chipperfield in the team for England was the omission of Jack Scaife (who made 120 and 80 for Victoria against New South Wales this week) from the thirteen to tour New Zealand. Davey is practfcally an unknown quantity, having plajfc. in only one Sheffield Shield match. ThtKxclusion of Oxenham (Queensland) is also noteworthy.

The "Labour Daily" says: "Davey's selection is a mystery. Possibly he was chosen to appease South Australia for its poor representation in the major eleven. Tobin (South Australia) appears to have been badly treated." Badcock, aged 19, holds a number of Tasmanian records,-being the only Tasmanian to score a double-century in a first-class match. He has an average of- 122 in club games this season. His scores against Victoria this season were 25, 107, 274 and 71 not out. BOXING IN SYDNEY. BLANDON RETAINS TITLE. (Keceired 11 a.m.) SYDNEY, this day. At Leichhardt Stadium, "Darkie" Blandon (8.4) knocked out Dal Costa (8.3) in the eighth round of a 15-round boxing contest, thus retaining the Australian bantam-weight championship.
