LARWOOD SPEAKS.
BEST SIDE HAS BEEN CHOSEN. (Received 1 p.m.) LONDON, January 31. Enormous interest is being taken in the Australian cricket team, tlfe personnel of which is discussed everywhere. The newspapers are plastered with photographs, biographies and appreciations. The general opinion is that O'Reilly is Australia's great hope and great gamble. If, as expected, he does better in England than in Australia he may help Bradman to win the Tests. If O'Reilly fails the attack may collapse with a thud. Harold Larwood (Notts, England's bowler in Australia) said the team was about the best side Australia could have chosen. O'Reilly is outstanding in the Australian attack. The surprise omission is that of Richardson. Referring to his own chances of playing in the Tests, Larwood says it is impossible to say how his injured foot will stand cricket. He had been advised not to try it until he could get on to turf, and intends to stick to his surgeon's advice.
