THIEVES' BIG HAUL.

Late Peer's Family Heirlooms

Stolen.

BODY AWAITING BURIAL.

LONDON, January 24,

While the body of the late Lord Halifax was lying in the parish church only 150 yds away, thieves raided his late residence, Hickleton Hall, Doncaster, and stole priceless family heirlooms and relics, valued at thousands of pounds, in spite of the presence of a policeman on duty throughout the night, and 70 sleeping mourners, including the new Baron Halifax (formerly Lord Irwin).

When the household awoke the rifled showcases were found on the lawn. Articles found there included Lord Halifax's Star of India decoration, a bag of pearls and a paper-knife, which was the gift of King Edward. The stolen articles included jewellery presented by Royalty to Lord Halifax.
