"WAR INEVITABLE."

Chinese View of Russo-Japanese

Situation.

FIGHT TO THE BITTER END

(Received 12.30 p.m.)

COLOMBO, January 24.

Dr. W. W. Yen, Chinese Ambassador to Moscow, described Russo-Japanese relations as being very tense. He thought war was inevitable if the Japanese militarists give trouble. In the event of aggression the Russian leaders were determined to fight to the bitter end. The Russian Army was thoroughly prepared.

According to a Tokyo message, the Ministers of War, Navy, Home and Foreign Affairs are conferring with the object of prohibiting the publication in Japan of warlike stories or magazine articles liable to inflame so-called patriotic feelings. It is stated that the Cabinet realises the harmful effect at home and abroad of recent writings of retired service officers and others.
