AT TAKANINI.

BEREATU GOES FAST, TAVERN KNIGHT'S SEVEN. The inside grass was available for fast work at Takanini this morning, the poles being out about 12ft. Hoi's eg w;ere worked the reverse way round in. view of the Takapuna meeting, and some smart sprints were recorded. Gold Pocket (Fearn) and Expectancy (Jones) jumped off at tlie seven-furlong post, and had Express to pick them up over the last three. They ran the last six in 1.18 4-5, the final three taking 40 4-ss. Gold Pocket and Express finished 'well ahead of Expectancy, who recorded one of her worst efforts to date. She is to be ridden by K. Voitre on Saturday. Greek Gold (Fergus) and Exaggeration (Fearn) got to the end of live furlongs in 1.4, tlie pair finishing together, the latter, impressing most. Gay Marigold(Clifford) and Thespis (McTavish) jumped off at the seven-furlong post, and after running their first half mile in 52 l-5s completed the distance in 1.32, with Gay Marigold finishing an the better of the pair. Gay Blonde (Doig), and Nun Nicer OH. Gilmer) were associated over half a mile, accomplished in 50s, with the former finishing on strongly. Arch Ruler (Forsyth) and Sir Willonyx (McTavish) recorded a smart effort over half a mile, registering 48 4-ss. The former was going very well at the finish and will race on the second day. Bell Kyrian (Walters) had no trouble in getting to the end of three furlongs in 39 3-ss. Rereatu (Forsyth) was again responsible for the beet effort of the morning, completing half a mile in 48s. He has done a good deal of work lately and has fined down a lot. Tondalcyo (Lacassie) worked over a round, completing her last three furlongs easily .in 41 3-ss. Alignment (Tuohey) pulled up well after running' half a mile in 49 4-ss. Speedmint (Walters) and Gay Sheila (Doig) worked over a mile and a quarter, but the pace was not on except over the last two furlongs, which were run in 25 2-ss. Eldora (Forsyth) ran a mile in 1.40 2-5 —a very good effort for one of her class —and she should go well in the high-weight.

Tavern Knight (Clifford), with Cherry King. (Walters) to bring him home over the last five furlongs, rail seven furlongs solidly in 1.29 3-5, the last five taking 1.3 3-5, the .pair finishing together, both going well. Melbroney (Lacassie) ran the last six of seven furlongs in 1.27. Higli Crest (Wiggins) began better than Gal : lant Knight (Clifford) at the half-mile peg, and maintained her advantage to the end in 49 l-ss. High Crest 'got_ into a fence yesterday and injured her stifle, but she galloped well this morning and is showing no siftiis of soreness. Model .Girl (Walters) and the Valkyrian—Colosseum filly (Wiggins) got to_ tile end of half a mile in 50 3-ss, finishing on terms, after the former had established a couple of lengths' lead in the early stages. Amnion" Ra (Walters) worked at an easy pace ■until he reached the six-furlong post, coming home well in 1.18 1-5. Haupere (Wiggins), with the assistance of Rerepai (Clifford) over the last three . furlongs, ran five in 1.3 3-5. the final three taking 37 2-ss. The latter, who got a couple- of lengths the worst of the pick up, finished in front.
