RACING AT TAKAPUNA.

THE FINAL GALLOPS. LORX> VAL SHAPES WELL. BAROSCOPE ALSO PLEASES. The conditions were perfect for training at Ellerslie this morning, when the final gallops before the Takapuna spring meeting were held. Trainers had the use of the course proper, the poles being 30ft out from the rails. No. 3 grass, tan, sand and two-year-old tracks were also open. Several smart gallops were registered, the best being those of Kiltowyn, Lord Val, Baroscope and Gay Rose. The Course Proper. The Gisborne horses Sunny Bachelor and Merry Damon were the first out, being' allotted a mile. They ran the first half in 51 3-ss, md the full distance in 1.46 4-5. Both horses worked nicely, though Sunny Bachelor, who was on the outside, impressed most. Tenakoe was sent six furlongs, with Lord Val to assist him over the last five, the full distance taking 1.20 4-5. Lord Val was several lengths behind Tenakoe when he joined in, but finished about eight lengths in front, the time for the last five furlongs being 1.4 2-5. Tenakoe was shirking his work at the finish. Miss Rewa and Hawthorn got to the end of five furlongs in 1.5 1-5. There was little between them at the end. Wee Pat, Solomon, Wee Musk and Master Brierly were in that order after traversing six fnrlongs in 1.20, the first three taking 38 4-ss. Wee Pat did her work in first rate style. Glenromncy and Veloeitor were timed to run half a mile in 525. They were not doing their best at the finisn. Over a similar distance Royal Appellant and Bright Flower took 52 _ l-ss. Gay Broney and Conrthaven finished on terms over six furlongs in 1.1!) 2-5. Psychologist, after running his first two furlongs in 25 l-ss, completed five furlongs in 1.4 4-5. This hack is in good order for his Takapuna engagements.

My Money and Leo Colossus, after running their first two furlongs in 24 l-ss, completed five furlongs in 1.4 1-5. The former was going the easier of the pair at the end. Sunny Sky worked over seven furlongs, running the first three in 30 l-ss, and finishing up her task in 1.34. She was going comfortably throughout. Royal Survey covered six furlongs in 1.10 1-5, the last half-mile taking 53 2-ss. Over a similar distance Supreme Ruler and Chief Emerald registered 1.27 3-5, being under restraint throughout. Alpinus, with his trainer in the saddle, worked over a mile, and after running the first half in 51 2-ss, completed the gallop in 1.4G 2-5. Billy Boy assisted him over the last five furlongs, finishing in front in 1.8 2-5. Alpinus carried a solid weight and his effort was satisfactory. There was little between Morehu and Kilniuir after completing six furlongs in 1.20 3-5. Both were kept up to their work over the last couple of furlongs, especially Morehu. United did useful work, and finished up by sprinting down the straight. The Takapuna Cup candidate Baroscope' was sent _ seven furlongs, The Highland Chief assisting him over the first four and Barograph over the last three. He .ran the first three in 39 l-ss. four in 51 4-5s and the full distance in 1.31. Baro.graph-. was in front at the finish, after rmimpg the last three in 39 l-ss. The Highland Chief bled and was pulled up. Snow Prince, after beginning slowly from the mile post, rail his last seven furlongs in 1.38 4-5. He looks in first-rate condition and worked well. Kiltowyn, who was kicked out when he jumped away at the seven-furlong post, ran liis first three in 38 2-5s and four in 51s. He was then eased slightly and finished very fast to register 1.30 3-5. He was running on particularly well at the end, and it was a first-class effort.

On the No. 3 grass Prince Colossus worked steadily over a round in 1.58, the las't half-mile taking 58 2-ss. Other horse 3 to do useful work were: Patutalii, Teremai. High Star. Karangapai, Jewelled Girdle, Trimden, Zane Grey, Timorous. Matorni. Desert Star, Chief Clerk. Chief Cook. 'Glcnrata, Lady Diana, Grant's Opal and Darrywell.
