MATAMATA HORSES.
PRINCE VAX'S PROGRESS.
VALPEEX IX GOOD FETTLE,
Prince Val, Woodful and Valpcen are due to arrive in Auckland this evening. The first named has done everything asked of him since winning at Avondale, and it will be surprising ii he does not run a great race in tne Mitchelson Cup. He dead-heated with a good horse, Historic, two years ago, and has quite recovered that form after being off the scene for over twelve months. So definite arrangement has- yet been made regarding a rider. Valpeen took no harmful effects from his two races at Paeroa, and should run well at Auckland. Three wins, a third and twice unplaced is Valpeen's record to date. Woodiul is showing improved form on rhe track, but he does not put the vim into his work he did befpre the Wellington meeting. Although Woodful never runs a bad race, it will be surprising if he gets on the winning list at this meeting. Master Nor val is nominated for the second day at Auckland, but it has not yet been decided as to whether he will be taken to the meeting. He has been suffering from a boil in the mouth since racing at Cambridge. It will probably be a few weeks before he reaches his best. W. J. McLean is having bad luck with Sir Pathfinder. After a fall on the track before he was taken to Cambridge he was brought down by Glenade in his race, and has not been right since. It has been decided to give him a spell. Emancipation had done no fast work over anything like seven furlongs before racing at Paeroa, consequently it was mostly sentiment which caused his connections to have a little on the machine. The return shows again that a little sentiment sometimes pays in the racing business. Gigantic and Pound Sterling will not be racing «t Ellerslie. The latter has developed a slight cold. Gigantic is quite all right, but has had a fair amount of racing, and will not be called upon again until Te Rapa. Welcome Boy looks an improved horse since running in the two hurdle events at Paeroa. He will be nominated for Te Rapa. R. J. Mateer has commenced work in earnest on Valcuir, but it will be well after Christmas before the big fellow is ready to race. Street Dancer, Hot Dance, and First Dance, in the same stable, are making progress, and may make their debut about Christmas time. The Speardance youngsters display plenty of speed for a few furlongs, and look like turning out useful.
