The Tongariro River, Tokaanu. and La.ke Taupo fisbing season opened witK many keen anglers from many parts of the North Island awaiting the first hour. The best bag was secured by Mr. John Selby at the Delta Camp on the fly, all before breakfast. The limit of 15 fish was secured, the largest turning th© scale "-at lOJlb, or an average of 611b. ; V v ' Other anglers at Aslier's Hotel and fishing lodge report good bags, and the general opinion is that the sport is better to-day as compared with the corresponding time last year. The mild winter has caused the Jisli to return to the lake some six weeks sooner than usual, and in consequence some exceptionally fino fresh-run fish have been landed .in the Tongariro River. An abundance of f<Sed is apparent almost everywhere, particularly around Stump Bay and'other small bays about Tongariro River mouth. The fish are generally in "ood condition and many visitors are expected over the week-end, while the overseas bookings are the best for some years.
