NEW FISHING SEASON.

ACTIVITY NEAR ROTORUA.

LAKE AND RIVER CATCHES.

(By Telegraph.— Own Correspondent.) ROTORUA, tills day. Despite wind on the opening day of the fishing season, a number of good bags were taken in different parts of the district. Lake Rotorua was particularly chappy and. trolling parties were practically restricted to launches. On some of the more sheltered lakes conditions were rather better, but in practically every case a majority of the bags were taken early in the morning before the wind gained strength. [Reports indicated that the fish are in good condition for the opening of the season. All launches docked, at the Rotorua wharf were out, and a majority of the crews reported good fishing. Mr. B. Hitchens and party took 15. in Lake Rotoiti and Mr. C. D. Smith and party 10 in the saipe lake. Other Rotorua catches were 15 by Mr. J. L. Morrison and party and six by Mr. W. Young and party. On Lake Rotorua bags ranging from three to a dozen were taken. A trolling party on Green Lake took a dozen goodconditioned fish, and several parties on Lake Tarawera had bags ranging from six to a dozen. Fly fishing on Lake Okataina, Mr. J. C. Bates and another rod took a dozen good-conditioned fish, averaging 51b. Two limits were taken in the Ngongotaha stream by Messrs. Bethune -and Wilkie, of Auckland, the fish ranging up to 71b in weight. Mr. R. Hasted, of 1 Rotorua, who was also a member of this party, took seven good fish, including one just Tinder 71b. A number ofi rods were also operating on Utuhina, and good results obtained. Wind made conditions difficult for anglers in the Oliau Channel, but there was a fair earlymorning rise, and about 30 fish were diveded among several rods operating at Cochrane Park end. Among others, Colonel J. E. Duigan and Mr. J. W. Cochrane each took a half-dozen good fish.
