AROUND WHAKATANE.
RIVERS YIELD RETURNS. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WHAKATANE, tliis day. The fishing season opened locally yesterday under ideal conditions, the weather being fine and overcast. Fisn are reported plentiful in all rivers. An unusually large number of anglers in the upper reaches of the Waimana and Whakatane Rivers secured good baps, though small fish are numerous, the rivers being rather low. Messrs. Timbs, Wallis, Dockray, and Spinning, in the Tarawera River, took 35 fish in fine condition, the first-named securing the.limit. The average weight wa« 2 jib and the best fish caught appeared to be about 41b, one fisherman bagging five of this weight, all in splendid condition.
