AUCKLAND RELIEF.
METROPOLITAN COMMITTEE. A meeting of tho Metropolitan Unemployment Relief Association was held yesterday, the Mayor of Auckland, Mr. G. W. Hutchison, presiding. Financial Position. —The treasurer, Mr. J. S. Brigham, reported that total cash received since the committee's inception was £17,007, and the sum of £2127 since last week. The credit balance was £4852, commitments £423, leaving a net surplus of £4429. Award Wages Refused.—The committee decided to refuse an. application which was received from the men working in the boot pool to have their wages raTsed to those paid to boot repairers by private persons. Assistance in the provision of gear for playing cricket was also refused. Clothing Depot.—The officer in charge reported that since the last meeting on August 22, 1933, tho departmental figures showed a total of 111 men who had left Auckland for various camps. During the eame period goods had been supplied as under (in the same followingorder in each case); free to campers, half price to campers, half price to city men:—Blankets, 04, 10, ISS; denims, 84, 14, 155; shirts, 92, 17, 147; singlets, Co; socks (pairs), SO, 34, 225: underpants, none, 12, 22. Boot Repairing Depot.—Since latst meeting 295 pairs of boots and shoes had been received for repairs and 350 pairs dispatched.
