PONY'S PLIGHT.

MEN RISK LIVES. DRAMATIC LONDON I^IRES. Two men risked' their lives in attempting to save a pony from a blazing building in Canning Town, London. The fire broke out in what ie known as Rippic's Woodyard, in New Road, which has been converted into stables and garages. The pony was in a etable adjoining tho wooden shed where the iire originated. Mr. Harry Rose, who knew that the pony was in danger, put a handkerchief round his mouth and tried to undo the door. . \ Rose disappeared into the smoke, and when ho did not return Mr. Sugcten went in. Hβ found Rose on the point of collapse and dragged him out. Mr. Sugden went back into the enioke and also tried to open the door, and two other men found him later lying on his hands and knees also on the point of collapse. Firemen also tried to reach the pony, but it was too late. Thirty girls working in part of the factory of Messrs. George Bramston, rope and twine manufacturers, in.Sugar House- Lane, Bow, E., escaped without injury in a fire on thu eame day. Several fire engines were called and the tire was prevented from spreading to other parts of the factory. Three of the girls fainted after dashing down the stairs through the smoke. A girl worker told the "Evening Standard": "It was a marvel that all the girls got out without being burned, as the firo spread so quickly. Before you could say 'Jack Robiiraon' the whole place was blazing and smoke was pouring from tho windows."
