ADVERTISING ESSENTIAL. "Money must bo spent in brinirin<* our goods before the public," said Robert Laidlaw in replying to questions at the annual meeting of shareholders of the I<armors' Trading Company this morning. Mr. Laidlaw recalled that the directors of a certain manufacturing concern decided to reduce expenditure °by eliminating advertising for a year. The consequences were that it took three years to get back the business that was lost. 'I he imports of the Dominion have fallen by one-half," h 0 said, "and it is obvious that there is less business to_ be obtained. But big businesses have itill got their fixed charges to meet, which cannot b e cut down. To obtain h, proportion of the lesser amount of i business money must be spent in bringing our goods before the public." i
