THAMES, this day. j Fire which broke out at 4 o'clock this ' morning destroyed the battery and treatment plant of the rccently-formed Alonowai Gold, Copper and Lead Mines,' Ltd., at Waiomo. It is thought "that tlie outbreak started in the coal bunker. The battery was completed about | three years ago at a cost of between | £20,000 and £30,000. The watchman reports that at 2.30 a.m. everything was safe. At 4 a.m. the building was discovered to be in flames, but as no water was available nothing could be done to save the building and plant. It is understood that the building was insured, but the amount is not available.
