STRUCK ON FACE. RESTAURANT ASSAULT. SEAMAN DENIES CHARGE. , (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. A seaman, Robert Adams (:J0), was Charged to-day with assaulting Harold Leslie Birtles so as to cause actual bodily harm. Tlic charge was brought ill consequence of a disturbance on May, r>, when Birtlcs had a plate smashed in • his face in a restaurant, and. received injuries which necessitated live stitchee. The complainant, in the witness box, could not recognise ftis assailant. Hisj story showed that he was attacked in consequence of his intention to sign on as a'member of a volunteer crew on the
Maiiuganiii. Accused, who was identified by a companion, denied being the man, and the case was adjourned to enable the -police to obtain,the evidence of the restaurant proprietor and his wife.
