IMPORT DUTIES.
FARM PRODUCE TAX.
U.S. Impost Not Consonant With Tariff Truce Plan. ROOSEVELT'S VIEW. (United P.A.- -Electric Telegraph—Copyright) (Received 11.30 a.m.) WASHINGTON, May 10: President Roosevelt definitely indicated to-day that in view of a world tariff truce lie does not think the United States should impose import taxes on agricultural products as provided under the new Farm Bill, during the period of the truce. Mr. F. H. Britten told the House of Representatives to-day that several members had in their pockets a tentative draft message from President Roosevelt asking that the American delegates to the World Economic Conference be given authority to agree to raise or lower the tariff rates. "If that proposal was being seriously made, and it is, the country ought to know something about it," he declared.
TARIFF TRUCE.
U.S. ACCEPTS BRITISH FORMULA (British Official Wireless.) (Received 1.30 p.m.) RUGBY, May 10. Notification of the United States Government's endorsement of the British formula for a tariff truce has been received. The formula, which will be submitted for the approval of the organising committee of the World Economic Conference is the outcome of a conversation in London between British Ministers and Mr. Norman H. Davis, the United States envoy in Europe. Mr. Mac Donald, in the House of Commons, gave the assurance that the Government's intention was to endeavour to secure at the World Economic Conference a general reduction of tariffs.
