WOMEN'S INSTITUTES.
WHATORO. On April 22 the institute held its monthly meeting. Mrs. Meale presided. The roll call, "Sing, say, or penny pay," was very interesting, and the competition, a garment costing not more than 3/, was won by Mrs. Wright with a knitted pullover, and Mrs. Meale second with a hand-made nightdress. TIRAU. The Tirau branch of the women's division of the Farmers' Union held its annual dance in the Town Hall. Extras were played by Mr. K. Marshall. Songs were given by Miss de Silva. Two Monte Carlo waltzes were won by Mr. and Mrs. E. Evans and Mrs. W. Allen and Mr. J. Stewart. WAIPTJ. Mrs. J. P. McKay presided over the Waipu Institute, when Mr. McFarlane gave an interesting talk oil child welfare work. Miss Eerris sang two songs, while a roll call on the uses of, and new methods of cooking, potatoes revealed quite a number ot' new ideas. The hostesses were Mesdamcs'M. McAulay, 'N. McGregor, Baxter, and Misses Moreland and- Coats.
