TAUPIRI. As the result of a successful function held 011 Wednesday the Plunket Society will benefit to the extent of approximately £18. Tho effort took the form of a Paddy's market in the afternoon and a dance in the evening. Those responsible for the success of the function were Mesdames E. Sowman (president), L. Powell, F. Durbridge, G. Clarke, W. Moore, F. C. Day, J. Old, J. Bruce, F. Jerome, Misses Thompson, J. Sowman, V. Hunter, M. Day. A sponge cake competition was won by Mrs. Signal, and the best bowl of flowers by Mrs. S. A. Clarke. WHANGAREI. Mrs. Cubitt, of Devonport, is the guest of her sister, Mrs. Boult, of Mill Road. Mrs. and Miss Drumniond are visiting friends in Auckland. Miss Mander, of Mount Pleasant, Auckland, is visiting relations in Wliangarei. Mrs. Gus McKay gave an enjoyable bridge party on Wednesday to Mrs. Moresby, who is shortly leaving Wliangarei. Mrs. Walters, of Auckland, is visiting her mother, Mrs. Gillespie, of Hassard Street.

Sister E. A. Orsman, of Uie Whangarei Hospital, has been chosen to act as matron for the Kawakawa Hospital, subject to the approval of the Health Department. Mrs. Ransom and Mrs. Masters, wives of the Ministers who have been visiting tho North, were entertained at the Women's Club. A play was given by the Misses Brougliton, Carr and Mrs: Morrish. Songs were sung by Mrs* Hugh Crawford and Miss Wise. Madam Rolfe Smith A competition, in which all 1 " members took Spart, was won by Mrs. Masters, who 'tied with Mrs. Morrish.

Mrs. Harvey, of Palmcrston North, has returned to "Whangarei on a visit, and is tho guest of Mrs. Long, Bank Street, Mrs. C. Alison Jones, Oranga Road, has returned from a .holiday spent in Auckland. „ TUAKAU. The twelfth annual meeting of the Tuakau sub-branch of the Franklin Plunket Society was presided over by Mrs. Dynes Fulton. The report indicated that the year had been a successful one, much useful work being accomplished. The general fund showed a credit of £18. Ia regard to tho rest room, the committee had experienced difficulty in meeting obligations, but the debt had been reduced to £03. Officers were elected as, follow: Patron, Mr. A. 11. A" pleasant diversion from the ordinary social was the "topsy-turvy' social held by the Tuakau Anglican Girls Bible Class/under Mrs. L. E. Cartridge, to raise funds for tho purchase of hymn books. Tlio function attracted a very larse attendance, and was signally successful. Items were presented by Misses J. Tuohey, L. Clark, and Master Monerief. A play was presented by Misses N. "Westland, P. Jones, M. Durrant, B. •Holland, D. Codlin, and M. Westland. Dancing interspersed the items. GISBORNE. Mr. and Mrs. P. F. Barker, of Glenroy, have returned from a holiday trip Lake Rotoiti. Mrs. A. Blackburn, Score Road, left this week to spend al.'fey in Wellington. Miss Moyft Hcgart>, Harris Street, has returned from a holiday spent at Lake Waikaremoana. Mrs. J. B. Morris, of Tolaga Bay, is the guest of Mrs. A. S. Seymour, Russell Street. Mrs. T. Todd, Ballance Street, is visiting Auckland. Mrs._ R. C. Gibson, of Motuliora, was a visitor to Gisborne this, week, and returned on Thursday. Mies Molly Reid, of Opotiki, is staying with Mrs. C. Tietjen, : Bushmere. Mr. and Mrs. G. E. Cotterill, of Makanka, East Coast, are oh a holiday visit to Pahia, Bay' of Islands.' "Mrs. M. L,. Nolan, who have been visiting Christchurcli and, Wellington, returned to Gisborne on Thursday. Mr 6. G. V. Chamberlain, of "Waliroa, is'staying with Mrs. M. J. White, Harris Street. Mr. and Mrs. P.
