PROTEST BY MINERS.
OFFER BY TWO COMPANIES.
(Prom Our Own Correspondent.)
HUNTLY, this day.
Independent representations to their miners to resume work have been made by two of the coal companies, according to the information in a telegram which Mr. W. Davison, secretary of the Northern Miners' Council dispatched this afternoon to Mr. T. O. Bishop, secretary of the New Zealand Coal Mind Owners' Association.
The message was couched in the following terms:—
"Glen Afton and Taupiri have separately approached their men and offered to sign the present agreement for 12 months if they resume work. My executive and men take strong exception to this. We only insist that the agreement be carried out for all members of the union. No correspondence will be considered unless it is between the owners' secretary and the union's secretary. Men still to remain "idle."
