APPOINTING A CHEF.
HOSPITAL BOARD DISPUTE.
The appointment of a chef at the infirmary at Epsom was made at a special meeting of the Hospital Board yesterday, when a heated debate took place. Forty-seven applications were received for the position, and the infirmary committee had reduced the number to four, whom they interviewed, and recommended one , for the board's approval, subject to a month's trial. As the matter was not on the order paper at a'meeting held last Friday, it required the unanimous consent of the members to endorse the committee's recommendation. Mr. E. H. Potter objected, and a specially-convened meeting Was called for ■ Wednesday to finalise the position. Mr. G. J. Parvin moved the adoption of the committee's report, and Mrs. Kidd seconded. Mr. Potter moved an amendment that a special committee be appointed to investigate the position of the infirmary kitchen. This led to a heated discussion, members saying that the appointment of such a committee was a distinct slight to > the infirmary committee who had brought down the report. Eventually the motion was carried, with two memibers dissenting. Mr. Potter then commenced to read a notice of motion to rescind the resolution just carried, but most of the other members abruptly left the room.
