TARANAKI ARRIVES.

SEAMAN SERIOUSLY INJURED.

SHIPMENT OP MOTOR CARS,

Fine weather in both the Atlantic and Pacific was experienced by the motor ship Taranaki, which arrived at Auckland from London this morning. Only when the vessel was nearing Auckland did the conditions become boisterous. Since the Taranaki's last visit to. New Zealand Captain W. J. Johnson has relieved Captain C. Wood as master. Captain Johnson was formerly in the Waimana, while Captain' Wood has been transferred to the Themistocles. When the Taranaki was in mid-ocean one of the seamen, J. Woolsgrove, who signed on the vessel when she was loading at a New Zealand port last trip, fell from a ladder to the main deck and severely injured his ribs. He was put ashore at Gatun Lock and taken to hospital by ambulance. His condition, according to one of the officers, was fairly serious. . The- Taranaki carries four cadets, three of- whom are New Zealanders. Included in the ship's cargo are some 30 motor cars, shipped "unprotected." Instead of being. enclosed in wooden cases they were put aboard just as they will appear, when offered for sale— "hooter, and all complete," as one of the officers, put it. Once below deck, they were wheeled into position- and made fast. When landed, they can, if desired, be driven off the wharf under their own i power.
