DEVONPORT BOROUGH COUNCIL.
Members or. the Devonport Borough Council met last evening, the Mayor, Mr. H. F. W. Meikle, presiding. '
Relief Goods.—The council decided to arrange storage and delivery of goods received for the Governor-Generals winter relief fund.
Water Supply.—lt was decided to inform the Northcote Borough Council that it was 'not possible to supply water from the plant as planned. Borough Finances. — Reviewing the financial condition of the borough, the Mayor said that when the council took office the public debt was £272,642, while at March 31 last the figure was £262,103. General and special rates had been struck as follows:-1930-31, £39,374; 1931-32, £38,000; 1932-33, £36,461. The overdraft, he said, had been reduced by £1555 during the last financial year, and stood, at £4580. In salaries and wages a saving of £1760 had been made. The sum of £23,808 had been spent by the council on relief works, and £22,356 had been refunded by the Unemployment Board. The cost to the council for tools and materials had been £1223.
