The Court of the Star Chamber received its name from the gilded etars on the ceiling of the ancient council chamber of the palace of Westminster, in which it eat. It was famous in the constitutional history .of England as early as the reign of Edward ILL It was not open to the public. Only those whom the judges permitted to attend were present.
