FIRE BRIGADES.

WELLINGTON, Wednesday.
The United Fire Brigade Association conference was. continued to-day, when a demonstration of -the latest fire-fighting appliances was given. Gold stars for 25 years' service were presented to Superintendent Craig, of Hamilton, Foreman Williams, of Hok-itika, and Mr. Lakin, secretary of the Hokitika Brigade. The following officers were elected:— President, Superintendent A. Boon (New Plymouth); vice-presidents, Superintendent H. E. FolLvi (Devonport), DeputySuperintendent Wilson (Milton); secretary, Captain T. J. Watts (Newmarket) ;- treasurer, Mr. C. A. Osborne (Onehuriga).
