The export of 70,000 cases of fruit from Canterbury this year will, it is expected, prove very satisfactory from the point of view of the growers. At the annual meeting of the Canterbury Fruit Growers' Association, Limited, however, the president (Mr. E. Freeman) warned members against 'disposing of the remainder of their crop at a low figure, as it was believed that good prices would be ..obtainable later for fruit kept in cool store.- Two years ago, when there was a very big cropyielded, only 28,000 cases were exported, and that year the growers got into difficulties, he said. The satisfactory export arrangements would prevent trouble of a similar nature this year. The reason for the advice to growers to be cautious in their disposal of the rest of their crop was that many had received offers for purchase at as low a price as 4/6 a case. With 70,000 cases being sent overseas, and a shortage of Wolseleys, it looked as if the remaining crop should be sold at a fairly good price. Officers were elected as follows:—-Presi-dent, Mr. F. W. Sisson; vice-presidents, : Messrs. E. Freeman and G. Allington; ; secretary and treasurer, Mr. N. A. McNab; committee, Messrs. R. Hamilton, S. i | James, E. A. Stead, B. Turner, W. E. Davidson and C. H. Dyer; delegates to ' provincial conference, Messrs. G. Ailing- , ton, G. Mottram, W. E. Davidson, C. H. ; Dyer, B. Turner, E. Freeman and L. { Sisson. • - s Remits for the annual conference of the l New Zealand Fruit Growers' Federation were passed as follows:—(1) "That representations be made for the amendment of the Auctioneers' Act to provide for the payment of the proceeds of sales into a i trust account"'; 12) that the proposal for the establishment of an 'extra fancy' grade in pears be opposed." j i
