' EGGS ARE DEARER. ISLAND FRUIT ARRIVES. Apples are selling a little better, as supplies of second grade have fallen off considerably. Dessert pears are in fair demand, but cookers sell at low rates. Passion fruit are now selling well. With colds so prevalent, there is a big demand for lemons to make hot drinks, but sup- ' plies are somewhat short. Further quantities of fruit from the Islands arrived to-day; There has been a falling off of supplies of local-grown tomatoes. Te Kauwhata grapes are practically finished. Quotations' are:— Apples: Dessert, Jonathan, 4/ to 6/ per case; Delicious; 2/ to 0/; Spys, 3/ to 6/6; Salome, 3/ to 4/; Brighton, 3/ to 4/; Ballarat, 3/3 to 4/; Muuro, 2/6 to 4/; Granny Smith, 3/6 to 6/. Pears: Dessert, Coles and Nelis, 7/ to 10/; Louis Bon, 7/6 to 10/; cookers, Keiffers, 3/ to 5/; P. Barry, 3/6 to's/. Passion fruit: 4/ to 6/. Oranges: Californian, 32/6 to 37/6; Raratongan, 20/ to 25/; Fiji, 12/ to 13/. Tomatoes: Hothouse, 4/ to 8/; outdoor, 4/ to 8/; inferior, 2/ to 4/. Bananas: Original, 13/ to 14/; ripe, 18/ to 20/. Tree tomatoes: New Black, 6/ to 8/. Cape gooseberries: 2%d to 3%d per lb. Quinces: 6/ to 8/6 per case. Lemons: 6/ to 14/. Grapes: Hothouse, 8d to 1/4 per lb. Vegetables. Local-grown cabbage are not ready for market and supplies of that line and also cauliflower from Ohakune are now falling off. As a result higher prices ruled for both cabbage and cauliflower. Lettuce is in heavy supply, but meets with poor demand now that the weather has set in colder. Celery is in good supply and sells readily. Good quality potatoes meet with ready sale. Large quantities of potatoes are still coming forward and onions aro very plentiful. The market is still overstocked with kumaras and pumpkins. Quotations are:— Potatoes, 1/ to 3/3 per bag; swedes, 1/ to 2/9; onions, 2/ to 2/6; kumaras, 1/6 to 2/6; cabbages, 5/ to 8/6 per sack; on benches, 2/ to 4/6 per dozen; cauliflowers, 6/ to 10/6 per sack; on benches, 2/ to 5/ per dozen; pumpkins, best crown, 5/ to 6/ per cwt; others, 2/ to 4/ per sack; cucumbers, 1/6 to 4/6 per dozen; carrots, 6d to 1/; parsnips, 9d to 1/3; beet, 6d; turnips, 6d; radish, 6d; spring onions, 3d to 6d per bundle; spinach, 6d to 9d per dozen; leeks, 1/ to 2/6; green peas, 6/ to 9/6 per bag; French beans, 1/ to 4/6; marrows, 1/6 to 2/9 per dozen; melons, citron, 2/6 to 3/ per cwt: lettuce, 1/ to 4/ per case; celery, cooking, 6d to 96. per bundle; dessert, 1/ to 1/9; rhubarb, 1/ to 2/6 per dozen. Eggs and Butter. Supplies of first grade hen eggs have fallen off considerably, with the result that the price was advanced. B and C grades and all duck eggs showed no change in price. Quotations are:—First grade hen eggs, 2/2 per dozen; B grade, 1/8%; C grade, 1/4%. First grade duck eggs, 1/9% per dozen; B grade, 1/7%; C grade, 1/4%. Farmers' butter, 6d to 8d per lb. Poultry. There was no sale of poultry to-day. WELLINGTON PRICES. Messrs. Laery and Co., Ltd., Wellington, report present values as follows:— Lemons: Choice cured, 15/ to 20/; others, 12/ to 14/ bushel. Passions: 5/ to 6/ half case. Cape gooseberries: Choice, 3/6 to 4/ per half case. Kumaras: Choice, 57 to 6/ per sugar bag. Piemelons: Choice, 5/6 to 6/ per sack. Celery: Choice, 6/ to 7/ banana case. Cabbage: Choice, 12/ to 16/ per sack. Cauliflowers: Choice, 8/ to 10/ per sack. French beans: Choice, 8/ to 10/ per sack. Cucumbers: Choice, 10/ to 12/ per banana case.
