STILL ISOLATED.
« EARTHQUAKE ** DISTRICTS. SETTLERS IN POVERTY BAY. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) C SBORXE, this day. Although seven weeks have elapsed since the earthquake many settlers in the Mangapoike and Paparatn districts are still isolated on account of slips on the roads. Clearing work has proved a difficult task, accentuated by a spell of wet weather last month, which brought down further slips. Gangs of men have been constantly employed, but have not yet been able to give access to settlers beyond the Cook County boundary, who are still dependent upon paekhorees for the transport of supplies. Seven miles of road have still to be cleared before relief is provided, and until the work is completed settlers will be unable to get their wool out. On the Hangaroa Road, where a huge j slip blocked all traffic, a track has been ( made round the toe of the slip and this I is giving a good service, although there | is serious danger of a further complete! blockage in the event, of wet: weather. , |
