MEETING OF COUNCIL. MOTION OF CONDOLENCE. life disqualification upheld. Before commencing a lengthy meeting of the council of the New Zealand Rugby League last evening, at the instance _of the president, Mr. Cyril Snedden, a motion of condolence was passed to the parents and sisters of the late Harry Johns, the Richmond Rovers players, who died as the result of a boxing injury. Letters acknowledging the council's sympathy were received from Mrs. A. Palmer, mother of the All Black, B. P. Palmer, and from Mrs. Wynyard, widow of the late W. T. Wynyard, who thanked the New Zealand League for transferring to hei* the use of her late husband s life membership medallion. The Northland League advised that as the result of an inquiry conducted by its judicial committee, a recommendation for life disqualification had been imposed on W. Wells, a Towai Club native player for striking the referee in tlie Towai-Portland match on September 3. In upholding the disqualification, the council instructed its secretary to inform the Northland League of the extent ot its jurisdiction in enforcing the decision. ] The action of the Mount Albert United Club in sending a pioneering second grade team to Kaikohe was the subject of complimentary reference. . Unofficial reports were received concerning an exhibition match for charity played at Wanganui on Saturday by two Wellington club teams. As there was a suggestion that a loss had been made on the venture, stated to be undertaken without the full knowledge of the Wellington League, it was decided to seek an official explanation from the controlling league, which had not replied to a request made earlier in the week for information about the matter. __ , The transfer of H. Evans from South Auckland to Auckland was approved. Correspondence was received and dealt with from the Taranaki, Wellington, Otago, Canterbury, West Coast and New South Wales Leagues. Report on Taranaki. The hon. organiser, Mr. W. J. Hammill, provided a written report upon hie recent visit to the territory of the new North Taranaki League. This said that there could be no doubt as to the substantial establishment of the code in the province, but in view of opposition the new league would require every possible encouragement.
