Tlieie was a very large attendance, including representatives of other clubs, aiui also three representatives of the Auckland Centre, namely, Messrs. S. Coldicutt, J. Truscott and Parker-Hill. Tiie greens, though a trifle holding, wpre well turfed, and in capital condition, giving every promise of favourable playing conditions. , . „ The president, Mr. W. J. In reference to now members, who had joined up for the fresh season, it. was, he thought, a unique record that the club's list included four brothers, who were all tirst-year players. Referring to the excellent condition of the green, the president stated that the thanks of the club were especially due to Messrs. W. Tongue and McGee. He then called upon the patron, Sir Geo. Fowlds, who had occupied that position for 30 years, to make a presentation of a framed enlargement of the officers of the club to the retiring president, Mr. R. E. N. | Matthews. Another memento of the occasion was an enlarged framed photograph of the late president, made to Sir Geo. Fowlds. Mrs. Pearce threw the first jack, and the first bowl was rolled along by Miss Pearce, after which the green was formally declared open, amid hearty cheers from the assemblage.
