DISTRESS IN MOUNT ALBERT.
"HEALTIER TONE" NOTED. WELFARE COMMITTEE'S WORK. Good progress has been made by the Mount Albert Welfare Committee, and the officials report that there is now a healthier tone in the district. Applications for relief, although still steady, are in no way as numerous as they were a few weeks ago. During the past week the committee has sent out 40 sacks of coal. It expresses gratitude to the Arawa League, a local organisation, which each month gives a ton of coal for distribution in the borough. Twenty-five sacks of leather have also been distributed and 15 bundles of clothes have been supplied to necessitous cases. In addition, the committee has arranged for two expectant mothers to enter St. Helens Home, and for an adequate supply of baby clothing.
The committee is still in urgent need of firewood, and would be thankful to hear of any trees that may be cut down.
