MT. ROSKILL ROAD BOARD
MR. J. H. REICH APPOINTED
CHOICE FROM S2 APPLICANTS,
From a range of 82 applicants, Mr. John Herbert Reich, at present town clerk to thy New Lynn Borough Council, was last night selected as clerk and treasurer to the Mount Roskill Road Board, in succession to Mr. J. Y. Warren, who recently resigned.
The appointment was made at a special meeting of the Road Board. The total number of applications had been reduced to six, three being from Auckland city and three from outside the metropolitan area, and it had been arranged that if one of the city applicants proved unsuitable, the final choice should be made from the three outside applicants.
Mr. Reich, who will take up his new duties at an early date, is 44 years of age. He was born in Manchester, England, and educated in England and 011 the Continent. Arriving in New Zealand in 1903, he started in accountancy, and later for some years he was associated with an indent business. He was for four years on active service in France during the war. His initial experience of local body work was with the Kamo Town Board. For the past eight years Mr. Reich has been associated with the New Lynn local boiZy «t.\ town clerk, and during his term of office a loan programme covering over £100,000 worth of developmental work has been carried out. The major undertakings comprise the sewage and drainage scheme, the concreting of tlje Titirangi highway .and the construction of the Whan Bridge.
