WOMEN'S INSTITUTES.

BUCKLAND. A branch of the Women's Institute has been formed at Buckland. The following officers were elected: President, Sirs. Lewis; secretary, Mrs. Hewitt; treasurer, Miss Piggot; committee, Mesdames Batcher, Shaw, Stringer, Steenson, Walker,, Harper, Seeley, Danes and Graham. The next meeting was arranged for September, at which the honorary organiser, Miss Lewis, is to be invited to attend. WAIMAUKU. The Waimauku Women's Institute held an all-day meeting in the local hall on Wednesday for members and friends, to meet Miss Lewis, the voluntary organiser. Mrs. L. Kerr-Taylor presided. During the day demonstrations were given by Miss Lewis on glovemaking, spinning and dyeing of wool, and the curing of sheep skins. The winners of tlio cookery contest were Mrs. R. M. Matheson and Miss Pryor. Mrs. Kerr-Taylor, on behalf of all present, thanked Miss Lewis for giving her services so generously for a whole day. PUKEKOHE. Eighty members were present at the August meeting of the Pukekohe Women's Institute, when the president, Mrs. J. H. Wyatt, presided. The president and secretary (Mrs. C. G. Renell) were appointed to represent the branch at the Auckland conference in October, and Mrs. Wyatt was nominated for a seat on the executive of the Auckland Federation. A committee consisting of Mesdamea V. L. Harvey, M. C. Lawson, and E. F. Snell was set up to visit sick members of the institute. An address on "Education and the Work of the W.E.A." was given by Mr. R. C. Clark, M.A., principal of Wesley College (Paerata). Demonstrations on the carding and spinning of wool, and on the making of articles from the wool fleece, were given by Mrs. Olden, of Onewheio, and Mrs. Wyatt. Mrs. Lawson exhibited a rug made from waste pieces o £ tweed and "old silk stockings. The hostesses were Mesdamea Anderson, Armstrong, Osborne and Stewart.
