WHANGAREI NOTES.

Miss Gwen Hutchinson, who has been a member of the staff of the Wliangarci Co-operative Dairy Company for a number of years, has resigned her position. Mr. and Mrs. Lambert, of Aponga, who left by car on Monday for Auckland, will also visit Hamilton. Miss Jean Stevenson, national general secretary of the Y.W-C .., is visiting Whangarei. She has given several addresses to the Girl Citizens, Rotarians, business girls, teachers and Women's Institutes respectively, and has also addressed various meetings in Portland and Hikurangi. For the purpose or assisting the funds of the forthcoming school carnival, Mr. and Mrs. Crosby entertained a number of friends at their residence in Mill Road. Bridge was played, and Mrs. R. Benjamin, Mrs. L. Weston and Mr. Laurie were the winners of the trophies. The ladies present were: Mcsdames Crosby, Morris, Benjamin, Hall, Surman, Wood, R. Laurie, D. Baker, Archer, J. A. S. Mackay, Collins, Simmons, J. Neal, Orr and Miss Flora Mackay. Mr. Collins, on behlaf of the carnival committee, thanked the host and hostess for their generosity. Mrs. 0. R. Haigh was hostess at a bridge evening at her home in Aubrey Street. The room looked very bright with its bowls of daffodils. Those present were: Met?dames Haigh, J. Eyans, Wood, A. Deverill, R. Harrison, F. Tebbit, Bethell, 0. Mann. Mrs. Betliell and Mrs. Deverill were the prize-winners. A very enjoyable week-end was spent when Mr. and Mrs. Harold Cotter, of Remuera, entertained a party of friends at their seaside cottage at McGregor's Bay, the visitors being: Mr. and Mrs. R. Benjamin, Mr. and Mrs. F. Crosby, Mrs. J. G. Campbell, Mrs. H. Good, Mrs. J. A. S. Mackay, Miss Flora Mackay and Mr. Clinton Jones. Miss D. Leaity is visiting her aunt, Mrs. of Hatea Street. Miss Stonex is spending a holiday in Whangarei. The annual ball of the North Auckland Farmers' Co-operative took place last week in the Castilian Ballroom. The room was gaily decorated, one end being reserved for card players. Amongst those present were: Mesdames W. A. Christiansen, C. J. Malloy, A. C. M. Finlayson, H. Wilson, Hall, F. Anderson, F. J. There was a full attendance at the Y.W.C.A. social hall on Monday afternoon, when the Ladies' Gardening Club held a social afternoon. A programme of songs, rcad.ngs, competitions and instrumental items was rendered. Afternoon tea was served, and the president. Mrs. Finch, addressed the meeting, thanking all who assisted in the afternoon's enjoyment.
