YOUTH FOR BORSTAL.
LENIENCY ABUSED. POSITION XOT APPRECIATED. Raymond Leslie Parker, aged 17, printer, who was placed on probation a week ago for three years on one of several charges of cycle stealing and was brought up the following day for theft of a radio set valued at £19 10/, made a further appearance at the Police Court this morning, on charges of stealing electrical goods worth 11/0, a battery eliminator worth £4 10/, and a pick-up and transformer valued at £4 15/. He pleaded guilty to all charges. "You evidently show a distinct lack of appreciation of your position," Mr. W. R. McKean, S.M., told Parker. "Immediately after you were granted probation, you left the Court and committed another offence. The probation officer now recommends that you should be sent to the Borstal at Invereargill. I intend to send you there." Parker's term was fixed at two years.
