MOTOR REGISTRATION.
TOTAIi NOW EXCEEDS 9000.
LAST DAY ON TUESDAY.
During the week the officials at the motor registration depot in the Wellesley Street Post Office have had a busy time, and on Monday and Tuesday next, which are the last two days open for motorists to obtain their new plates, a big rush is expected. There have been 24 officials employed this week, but next week there will probably be about 30. The registrar said this morning that, as expected, the rush began on Monday, and the totals recorded for each day up to the present increased, with a big rush yesterday and to-day. Monday's -total was 530, Tuesday's COS, Wednesday's 699, Thursday's 730, Friday's 1075, and this morning's 555, making a total for the week of 4203. The total for the month so far is 9173, which is about 1700 behind that for the same period last year. The registrar said that they are expecting about 3500 registrations on Monday and Tuesday. The total number of registrations for the month last year was 13,900. Motorists are reminded that if they have not got their new plates by Wednesday, and their vehicles are used, they are liable to a fine of £20 for each day the vehicle is us*ed.
