RESISTED ARREST.

MAN" FIRES AT POLICE. FOUR YEARS' IMPRISONMENT. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) NEW PLYMOUTH, Friday. A sentence of four yeare' imprisonment was imposed in the Supreme Court to-day on Christian de Rink, who was convicted for discharging a shotgun at police officers while they were attempting to arrest him, and for assaulting the officers in his attempt to resist arrest at Tikorangi. Mr. Justice Reed commended Detective A. B. Meiklejohn and Constable J. A. Tocker on their pluck and tact in arresting a man with a loaded gun. His Honor described de Rink as a dangerous character and expressed the hope that he would be deported at the conclusion of his sentence. De Rink is a Frenchman.
