BIG EARTHQUAKE.

PROBABLY NEAR KERMADECS RECORDING'S IN WELLINGTON. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. At 3.42 this morning the seismographs at the Dominion Observatory "began recording a big earthquake. The preliminary tremors lasted two minutes and fifteen seconds, and then violent oscillations were recorded for about three hours. A preliminary calculation indicates that the direction was N.N.E. of New Zealand, probably on the edge of the deep water near the Kermadecs.
